Happy International Women's Day!
Here at Sticky Toffee, we don’t just celebrate the Women in our company on International Women’s Day, but every day of the year. It is woven into our core values. From the Women’s empowerment camps and educational training we offer to the employees in India to the flexible work arrangements we offer our employees in the US, it is just a part of who we are.
My name is Nicole. I am a real woman, working a real job, with messy toddlers and a busy schedule. I am so blessed that JVS, parent company of Sticky Toffee, celebrates me as a woman, a mom and most importantly a working mom. The flexibility my company has offered me to work 100% from home has been life changing in the way I’ve been able to balance my career and “mommy-ing.” Here are 3 reasons why I think more companies should celebrate working women with the ability to have flexible work arrangements:
1. Control Over your Schedule
When you work from home you have more control over your work environment. There are fewer meetings, fewer distractions and less noise. I plan to do my work when it makes the most sense. I am more efficient in the mornings and my productivity dies down mid-afternoon. Having the ability to shift my workday is helpful for both me and my company because I am able to get a lot more done in the 40 hours a week that I work, when I am working during my most productive hours.
2. Fewer Sick Days
My two kids are walking petri dishes! Between the months of November to March, it is rare that one of us is not sick. Being able to keep my child home with me when they are sick, yet still get my work done in between blowing noses and cuddling feverish kids, is something I treasure. Instead of having to bail on work every time one of us is sick, my company gives me the opportunity to balance both worlds.
3. More Money!
Working from home = more money. How, you ask? The amount of money I save every month in gas, lunches, work clothes and coffee is equivalent to the amount of money I spend on diapers and formula. Being a work-from-home mom has allowed me to save money in areas that I wouldn’t be able to save on if I were still in my corporate job. It has helped us to be able to afford the additional expenses of having children. From all of us here at Sticky Toffee, we hope you can surround yourself with a community and employer that builds you up, provides opportunity and gives flexibility to be the best woman you can be!
